Thodaya Mangalam

Thodaya Mangalam is the opening segment of a traditional Sampradāya Bhajan paddhati (bhajan tradition), especially in Marudanallur Sampradāya. It serves as a mangalacharana – an auspicious invocation – to begin the bhajan with divine blessings and establish a spiritual atmosphere.
By starting with Thodaya Mangalam, the devotee:
  • Offers their body, speech, and mind to the Divine.
  • Invites auspicious energy into the gathering.
  • Wipes away distractions, invoking śānti (peace) and bhakti rasa (devotional mood).
​It is usually a set of compositions in praise of Lord Vishnu, Rama, or Krishna, and sometimes includes stutis (praises) of various deities and saints.
