Vaikam Padma Krishnan
Namaste,
I am Vaikam Padma Krishnan, a professional Carnatic classical violinist with over three decades of experience as both a performer and teacher. I began my journey in Carnatic violin under the tutelage of Prof. M. Subramania Sharma, and further honed my skills with a Diploma and Post-Diploma in Violin from Sri Swathi Thirunal College of Music, Trivandrum. I had the privilege of receiving advanced training from the legendary musician Padmasree Kalaimamani Sangeetha Kalanidhi Kumari A. Kanyakumari.
Since 1993, I have been actively performing as both a soloist and accompanist. I am an “A” grade artist with All India Radio and was the winner of the All India Radio National Level Violin Competition in 1993. I was honored with the prestigious Lalgudi Gopala Iyer Award for Best Accompaniment Artist in 1997. My solo violin concert albums, Su Swaranjali (2005 and 2009), were well received. I have performed extensively at major sabhas in Chennai and have toured countries including Australia, South Africa, the USA, and the Middle East for both performances and teaching engagements.
In 2020, I was awarded the Senior Research Fellowship by the Ministry of Culture, Government of India, recognizing my contributions to the field.
As a teacher, I have mentored students across India and abroad in violin, vocal, and other instruments. Many of my disciples have earned scholarships from the Centre for Cultural Resources and Training (CCRT) and achieved recognition through All India Radio gradation.
My mission is to support sincere and passionate learners of Carnatic classical music—regardless of age—by offering them the opportunity to study this divine art form in the traditional way, from anywhere in the world. I offer one-on-one classes for students at intermediate and advanced levels.
